At least 15 dead as bus rolls off bridge in MP’s Khargone; government orders probe

 

At least 15 people were killed and over 25 injured after a bus carrying over 40 passengers fell off a bridge in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district Tuesday. The state government has ordered a probe into the incident.

According to officials, the bus was plying on the route near Dasanga and Dongargaon at 8.40 am when it allegedly broke through a railing and fell into a dry river. Local authorities, including senior police officials, rushed to the spot where rescue operations are underway. The injured have been rushed to the local district hospital.

State Home Minister Narottam Mishra said, “We have information that 15 people have died and 20-25 people are injured. All of them have been referred to the local hospital. The Chief Minister has announced immediate financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the families of the deceased, and the treatment (for the injured) will be free. We have ordered an investigation into the incident.”

Kamal Nath, former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, wished a speedy recovery to the injured. Taking to Twitter, he posted: “The sad news has been received of the death of 15 people and injuries to many people due to the accident of a bus in Khargone district. I pray to God for the peace of the departed souls. Wishing the injured a speedy recovery. I pray that the relief and rescue teams get quick success in their mission.”

MP: 15 killed, 25 injured as bus carrying 50 passengers falls on dry river bed

 The Madhya Pradesh police said the local resident of Dongar village in Khargone district rescued many passengers by breaking the window pan

At least 15 persons were killed and 25 were injured after a bus carrying 50 passengers fell into a dry river bed in Madhya Pradesh’s Khargone district on Tuesday morning, said police.

The injured were rushed to the district hospital.

Khargone superintendent of police (SP) Dharamveer Singh said, “The bus fell into a local river, which was running dry, after hitting with the railings of a bridge. The local resident of Dongar village rescued many passengers by breaking the window pan.”

The locals informed police that the bus was in high speed and the driver lost control over it on the bridge.

The police and district administration held a rescue operation.

The state government has announced an immediate financial assistance of ₹4 lakh each to the families of the deceased, ₹50,000 each to the seriously injured and ₹25,000 each to those who received minor injuries.

A magisterial inquiry has been ordered in the matter.
